Baby Shower & Name Reveal

Standard

I am very blessed to have loving friends that threw me a wonderful baby shower. It was Gatsby-themed (what I wanted :)) and everything looked/tasted great. It was so nice to see many of my girlfriends, and baby boy got a lot of love in the form of presents galore! Again, spoiled already!

Thank you again, Paula, Big Sis Jazzy, and Amanda for hosting! And thanks for everyone that came out!

The baby shower also marked the reveal of our baby boy’s name! I present to you…

Tai (pronounced just like Ty) means “safe” & “abundantly” in Chinese. It is in honor of my grandfather who passed.

Dear Carter,
That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? 🙂 Mommy and Daddy are very proud of your name, although it was not an easy one to decide on. Daddy and I “discussed” for months! In the end, Mom caved and let Dad have his #1 name pick. One day, if you have a brother, you’ll know what the other name option was! 😉 So many aunties are looking forward to meeting you, and you got a lot of cute stuff!

First preggo Christmas & NYE

Soon to be family of 4 (counting Titus)!

Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday! My family always makes a huge family event out of it, with visits, food, presents, Christmas carols, and so much love. Christmastime back home, I like to sit back and watch all the family interaction and always feel so blessed to know that Christ’s love is overflowing through them. It’s a happy, happy feeling.

Daddy, mistletoe, & baby bump kisses

This year, however, was a low-key Christmas at our house. We stayed home and couldn’t travel because of pregnancy restrictions. But it was nice to have our own little Christmas. I imagine we’ll be starting our own traditions with baby boy, soon enough. Both sides of family mailed us our gifts, in the weeks leading up to Christmas. We spent the morning eating, Skyping with my family (even got to see Grammy & PopPop arrive), opening gifts, and took some cute pictures.

My cousins seem uninterested in our Skype session...or maybe they're in a food coma.

A few days later, my cousin Terry and her FIANCE (yay!) came to visit. It was really nice to see her and meet him. We finally got a “Baby on Board” sign (among other goodies) that I hope to repel bad drivers with! And I kind of put them to work in assisting with baby boy’s lucky stars mobile. All done!

New Year’s Eve was different, more chill, but still fun. We went to a friend’s house to celebrate. With the wife being a photographer, of course there was a photo backdrop set up! 🙂

Happy New Year! Excited about 2015!

Current cravings: chicken wings & soup

Dear Edamame,
Can’t wait until we get to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve with you! You will definitely be the most precious gift! Your kicks and movements get stronger everyday, and we are counting down toward your due date. Dad thinks you have Mom’s nose, but we’ll see if he’s right. So many people are praying for you. We love you!

Single Digit Weeks Left!

Standard

We are in the single digit countdown, with only 9 weeks left!!! How crazy is that?! Woosa…definitely trying to keep calm.

We received a carseat, carrier, and stroller from my family that Mark and I tried to assemble, yesterday. That was pretty entertaining. We took turns until he got pulled away by work. I stayed persistent (minus a cereal break because I got hungry), but in the end…mommy wins with the stroller assembly! Mark did figure out how to put the carrier into the stroller, though, so props to him there! Ta-da!

I dare say Christmas shopping is all done. Yay! I’m glad I started early, because being this pregnant, I sure move slow! And there is a lot of family to shop for. I was at Burlington the other day, and baby started kicking hard. I hunched over a bit in the aisle, and this lady goes, “You’re not having that baby, are you?!” Haha. I assured her I was fine. But yes, definitely need to take it easy after Christmas shopping. My favorite part about Christmas gifts is definitely wrapping presents with a cup of hot cocoa and Christmas tunes. There’s something so soothing about it.

Current cravings: steak, soup

Dear Edamame,
Mommy and Daddy can’t wait to take you for walks in your new stroller! I can’t believe we are just a few weeks away from seeing you. I’m looking forward to all the events leading up to your arrival, like Christmas, New Year’s, and my baby shower. Christmas is Mom’s favorite holiday, and I am so excited that you will be with us to celebrate next year. We are looking forward to teaching you about Jesus, the reason for the season, giving, and what it means to be an appreciative person. Of course, we are also looking forward to starting our own fun traditions for you. 😉

Baby Shower in a box!

Standard
20141206_121807

This 4-piece set from Grammy just might be his coming home outfit!

On Saturday, I got a big surprise when the hubby brought upstairs a giant box that had “Baby Shower in a Box” written on all four sides. Apparently, he hid it from me in the garage. Just as it sounds, my family in New Jersey put together a baby shower for me…in a box! Eleven of my female relatives contributed gifts in this giant box. It was so sweet, and I had a blast opening everything with Mark taking pictures and a video camera going to capture everything. I especially loved the burp cloths and cloth diapers that were customized by my aunts and cousins with fun messages and cute drawings. They are all very special to me. While my friends in KC are throwing me an actual shower, I was a little bummed at the reality that my family probably wouldn’t be able to attend. But the box was super thoughtful and original. Baby boy got a ton of goodies…can’t believe he’s already getting spoiled! Thank you, thank you, dear family! We love you all! These are just a few pictures, because Mark took a ton! (I have a private video of the whole thing, but I’ll only share it with those that are somehow interested in sitting through 17 minutes of me opening presents, with commentary to Mark and Titus. Lol. Just ask if you want to see it.)

Our 1st baby class

Standard

Yesterday night, we went to a breastfeeding class. I think we both learned A TON! Mark was cute; he thought water should be given to newborns, too. 🙂 We learned it is recommended to breastfeed 6-12 months, and not introduce solids until 6 months WITH breast milk. The LC (Lactation Consultant, I think), said more women CAN breastfeed than CANNOT, and it is important to surround yourself with women that have had positive experiences breastfeeding, rather than negative experiences. I’d say I have a 50/50 mix between family and friends that did and did not breastfeed. Our hospital has a free support group for breastfeeding mothers that we were recommended to check out even BEFORE the baby is here. We learned best positions for holding baby so he latches (apparently, the football hold is best), correct latching formation of the mouth, advantages of a breastfed baby, poop coloring (pictures and all!), the dad’s role in it all, and when to pump. It was super informative!

Each couple had a baby doll for the class. This was ours. Yikes on that haircut!!!

Thanksgiving food coma

Standard

Since I am currently not allowed to travel beyond about a 25 mile radius within greater KC, we stayed home for Thanksgiving. On actual Thanksgiving Day, Mark and I had sushi. So non-traditional, right? Blame Mark’s sympathy cravings. 😛 But the weekend following Thanksgiving, the in-laws came over for dinner and spent the night. It was a lot of work to prep all the food, but it was nice to entertain family and cook for them. It was also nice to spend time with them, even though I can’t do much activity these days.

Mark was in charge of the turkey, it was his first time, and he selected an all-white meat turkey. I guess we didn’t defrost it long enough, because it was not fully cooked until about 10pm! That’s one of the many things I love about my husband…his ability to make me laugh and be youthful at all our silly memories and experiences, together. A for effort! He was super cute about preparing it and proud of his responsibility. We were stuck with a lot of leftovers that pretty much included a full turkey. We are STILL eating the remains, and I am getting tryptophan-ed out!

Hubby & the turkey

Hubby & the turkey

Ladies and gentlemen, I didn’t think this day would come, but I am happy to say we are officially registered!! Feeling so relieved to cross that off my to-do list. We ended up registering at 3 places with varying costs and options.

My bodily changes continue to freak me out, but I don’t really have much control over that. Usually before showering, I wonder what has happened to my belly button, because it’s like getting swallowed via stretching, by my belly. Crazy!

Current cravings: French fries, cupcakes

Dear Edamame,
Baby boy, I can feel you getting stronger with your punches and kicks! Daddy likes to play games with you, and you always respond to him. Your movements are causing my stomach to literally jump, like you’re trying to push out of my belly! Daddy says instead of an “edamame”, you’re transforming into a “jumping bean”! At our last ultrasound, we were told you are above average in weight. I fully expect you to be a big baby boy, whether that be long or chunky. 🙂 We think you’ll have dark hair, and Daddy says it looks like you have my nose. We’ll find out soon enough!

Baby registry = stressful!

Standard

Hello, third trimester! I had my glucose test on Monday. Lab results came back normal, so yay for no gestational diabetes. That glucola is nasty stuff. The prick in my arm has left a nasty bruising, and is still green and purple. 😦 Also on Monday, the doctor advised I not travel. I asked if that just meant not flying, and she said, “Well, you can go downtown.” Message received loud and clear.

I finally started our baby registry! Though it is unfinished, I think the start is a huge accomplishment…and headache. Registering for our wedding–now that was fun and easy. Registering for baby…SO MUCH TO CONSIDER! I’ve been taking in recommendations from friends and family, and I printed off a list of “must haves” from Buy Buy Baby. But there are so many items I come across and I’m like, “What’s the best brand? Is this kind safe? What does the consumer report say about this one?” You don’t really have to consider safety of life with a wedding registry. I registered almost 50 items and had to take a break because it was stressing me out. I think we’ll end up registering on Buy Buy Baby and Target. Maybe Amazon, if necessary.

Maintaining good posture is hard to do these days! When I do stand up straight, I can’t see past my belly. Walking too much and talking too much, all result in me being out of breath. I have a dark line in the almost-center of my belly (I don’t remember if I mentioned this in a previous post, already. If so, I blame in on the preggo brain.), and it is really weird. Doc says it’s related to hormones. Oh, we switched from midwife to doctor, as a result of my complication. We loved our midwife and we love our doctor, too. Our midwife was very nurturing and funny, while our doctor is very straight-forward with a sarcastic sense of humor.

Baby boy’s room is still getting cleaned and cleared out. It’s quite the process and I don’t exactly move fast, these days. It used to be our storage/guest room, so just imagine how much stuff was in it. This week, we successfully moved the guest bed out of baby’s room and into my home office, which will double as a guestroom. We had to buy a bed frame for it. Space is getting limited, and I mean that in so many definitions of the word! My belly AND the house! Lol.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mark has sympathy cravings! He’s been requesting vanilla shakes and pretzels (the hard, snack ones unlike my craving for soft ones w/cheese). It’s pretty funny and cute.

Current cravings: chicken noodle soup, chicken wings, cupcakes, caffeine-free root beer
